For Catholics, the church views typically that in the last year of seminary training a man will be ordained to the "transitional diaconate." This distinguishes men bound for priesthood from those who have entered the "permanent diaconate" and do not intend to seek ordination as a priest.After six months or more as a transitional deacon, a man will be ordained to the priesthood.Priests are able to preach, perform baptisms, witness marriages, hear confessions and give absolutions, anoint the sick, and celebrate the Eucharist or the Mass.In some areas of the world, arranged marriage, child marriage, polygamy, and sometimes forced marriage, may be practiced as a cultural tradition.Conversely, such practices may be outlawed and penalized in parts of the world out of concerns for women's rights and because of international law.Marriage counseling is one-on-one so it has to be expensive to cover the costs.In BLISS you get the same information a marriage counselor will tell you, but it’s given in groups, so the costs are spread out.So when the Newman Center invited me to speak to young adult Catholics on these issues, I jumped at the chance.To prepare for the talk, I attended at Thursday 10 p.m.It doesn’t feel like a class, it feels like a show.
